Great Lakes Aid (GLA) started from discussions between Tom Fuhrman (Lake Erie Region Conservancy, GLU) and Steve Franco (Alliance for Sustainable Communication). Both came from marketing and communications, have a history with music and media, and are very passionate about preserving the environmental and economic opportunities in the Great Lakes Region.

From the beginning, they knew this project was different. So special, so powerful, it was immediately embraced by all the environmental non-governmental organizations (ENGOs) in the Great Lakes Basin. Not more than 2 weeks after the initial idea, Tom called the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum and secured their interest in the project. WOW! Barely out of the box and a major partner? They knew the project had special resonance.

Record company promoters, radio stations, tour managers, venues, politicians - everyone GLA needs loves the idea (though we could always use more help). To date, a $10,000 seed grant from the Gund Foundation of Cleveland, Ohio was arranged with the hope that many other foundations and corporate sponsors follow suit. The goal is to raise $100,000 in seed money over the next several months.

Why are we doing it? To raise awareness and funds for the vital conservation efforts in the Great Lakes Region. Typical concert budgets call for at least a 100% profit margin - all of which will be rolled back into community preservation efforts (and future concerts) to help support the efforts of our grassroots conservation partners. Please help us today by making a donation or adding your name to the growing GLA mailing List.
